What are belt conveyors?

Belt conveyors are commonly used to transport materials and various activities. They can be used for packaging, automating production processes, etc. They are versatile and have several uses; it is a transport mechanism that can move materials continuously.

They are an economical method of conveying equipment and is indispensable for the assembly line. There are two or more pulleys and the conveyor belt on a tight sleeve. The system can be considered based on specific applications.

Types

The belt conveyors are categorised into the following types:

Flat belt conveyor

Ideal for transferring lightweight objects and irregular shapes, they can be segregated as head drive type, built-in motor type and middle drive type. 

Retractable belt conveyor

The frame is equipped with a storage belt that allows the belt to stretch freely and adjust conveyor length according to the changes in the working position of the belt.

Trough belt conveyor

It has a high conveying and loading capability. The conveyor belt uses multi-layer rubber and can help in transporting bulk goods.

Portable belt conveyor

There are universal wheels placed to the bottom and can move freely according to the stacked materials. 

Inclined belt conveyor

These belt conveyors are used if the goods must be lowered or raised. The tilt angle is usually not more than 18 degrees.

Roller bed belt conveyor

This type of belt conveyor uses many rollers to set up fixed support to move goods. It is usually used in airports for luggage sorting.

Cleated belt conveyor

There are vertical cleats distributed along the belt width. The cleats can support the material.

Steel belt conveyor

Steel belt conveyors use a stainless-steel belt to convey goods in the food and beverages industry.

Belt conveyors are widely used in chemicals, metallurgy, coal mining, logistics, and building materials. They can transport grains, paper and plastic products, clothes, raw chemicals, cargo transportation, food, etc.
