What do industrial controllers do?
The term industrial controller systems (ICS) describes various types of systems and related instrumentation used to operate and automate industrial processes. This can include devices, controls, networks and systems.
An industrial controller is therefore a computer-based device specialised in manufacturing and process control.
The simplest form of control systems include discrete controllers consisting of a single control loop. These devices are often panel mounted allowing for direct viewing of the front panel. Today nearly all controllers are electric, however, historically pneumatics controllers were used.
