What are pulleys?
A pulley is a simple machine consisting of a string wrapped around a wheel with one end of the rope attached to the object and the other end attached to a person or a motor.
The earliest evidence of pulleys traces back to ancient Egypt within its twelfth dynasty. Alexandria identified the pulley as one of the simple six machines used to lift weights. Pulleys are usually assembled to form a block and tackle, providing the mechanical advantage and ability to apply large forces.
What are the different types of pulleys?
There are three main types of pulleys based on their fixture, including:
Fixed
Movable
Compound

How does a pulley work?
The pulley is assumed to be weightless, and there is no energy loss due to friction. While in equilibrium, the forces on the moving block must sum to zero, where the tension in the rope must be the same for each of its parts. Two parts of the cord supporting the moving block must support the loads.
Where are pulleys used?
